Project Title: Elucidating the Role of Glutamine Catabolism in Cone Photoreceptor Metabolic Homeostasis and Survival

Dr. Wubben’s research focuses on the intersection of retinal metabolism and vitreoretinal disease.  Understanding the metabolic pathways that support retinal cell function and survival and how these pathways are rewired in certain disease states is expected to provide a framework for developing novel therapeutic paradigms to prevent vision loss in these afflicted with retinal disease.

Thomas Wubben, MD, PhD, graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and then obtained his MD and PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan and is currently a vitreoretinal surgical fellow at the Kellogg Eye Center at the UWWniversity of Michigan.
